Donations to Jamirotalk

mojogonlopoto » Jun 10 '18

Hi all!!

This is an idea that has been in my mind for a while. Jamirotalk has been a meeting point for all of us for a while now, and Meike placed all her effort to manage it, including a quite important amount of money due to the high data transfer this forum has. I've already told her several times to add a Paypal button to make donations, what do you think?

I'd donate for sure to cover server costs, what about you?

That's really nice, Victor, thanks for being so thoughtful. heart_eyes
It's true that I invested loads of time and yes, some money as well, into Jamirotalk in the past. It is of course a hobby, a passion, and for fun, not for profit as you know. My intention has always been to offer a good frame which is free of advertising, which is in a way intimate and private and can bring fans from all the world together at one central place. For me it was worth it to invest into this project. I got so much back which is priceless!

So, where are we standing now? It seems to me that the Jamily is a bit scattered due to different options of social media. I was hoping that we could bundle all the jamily again at one place here and tried to create a place where we could share everything and speak about everything jamirotalk realted things. But it is difficult. It's not my task to play the entertainer and fill every section here. That should be done by everyone. As I said once: I give you the frame, we all have to fill it with life. This hasn't happened here as much as I was hoping.

I had some costs in the past and also while putting up the new upgrade because I bought some plugins to improve the site. The running costs now are not that high, I think. Because there is not so much traffic here as I expected. So, to answer the question about the donation option: Yes, I can install a paypal button, if you want to support Jamirotalk+, but this might be more relevant if the traffic was higher and people would upload pics for example.

The question is: Do we really need this site? Is it worth to invest more time and money?

I don't want to force anyone to contribute here. But it would make me really happy to see the jamily using this community-site intensively and fill it with content, in the forum, in the review sections, the articles ect. That would make me really happy, happier than getting financial support, you know what I mean? wink

I think after summer the traffic will pick up again...I am hardly on the computer myself on these nice summer days and as jamirotalk always has been content based...it´s not just one or two words you comment so it is slightly unattractive to use on a mobile device like the iphone at the moment. I mean we always had proper discussions here... Don´t be sad and don´t take it personal...it´s a great site...I would wait and see what happens once summer is over ...before investing more.

Instagram and facebook are just so fast...it will be hard to "beat" but then again it´s not about winning..this is a different platform for a different purpose than the daily use.

Hm.. well, this used to be an international community, so half of the world has winter now! upside_down So, I don't think this is the reason.
